Youth Ministry

Trinity places a high priority in the spiritual development of our youth. We are always looking for creative ways to stimulate healthy inner action with family and friends, while at the same time strengthening our faith.

Every month we try planning a family event and a youth event. As well as every year we plan a high school trip. Through out the year we come together and work together to raise money for the big adventure.

  • First Communion
  • Confirmation
  • Vacation Bible Study
  • Sunday School
  • Senior High Youth Program
  • Bible Study

Our first Communion classes are held each year during the Lenten season for all 5th graders. Each 5th grader and their parents attend a series of classes that introduce them to Holy Communion.

We explore the biblical basis for Communion and the gifts of God we receive when communing. These 5th graders then receive their first Communion during our Maundy Thursday worship service.

First Communion is a meaningful and important experience in a child's life as they live out their baptismal promises and further participate in the life of a faith community.

The Confirmation program at Trinity Lutheran Church is a two-year journey of examining ones Christian faith in light of scripture and the Lutheran Confessions, leading up to the public celebration of Affirmation of Baptism (Saying “yes!” to the promises God said to us when we were baptized.)

Whenever a child is brought forward to the baptismal font, a pledge is made to “provide for their instruction in the Christian faith.”  Simply put, that means teaching our sons and daughters who they are as ones Jesus loves and dies for!  For the first twelve or so years of these kids’ lives, the Church seeks to help parents and sponsors honor that pledge by inviting these young ones to Sunday School, VBS, and regular worship.  As they get closer to adulthood, Confirmation instruction is our attempt to help these young people reflect on their faith in a deeper way and provide them with the means to express and live out their faith as mature Christians.

Confirmation instruction begins in the fall of a student’s 8th grade year. Through eighth and ninth grades, students meet regularly on Wednesday evenings from 6:45 to 8:00 P.M. at the church.  Class time includes Large Group study time led by the pastors, followed most evenings by time spent in Small Groups of 5-8 students with an Adult Group Guide who leads them into deeper reflection on our faith.  During the seasons of Advent and Lent, our Confirmation students participate in evening worship with the congregation.  Throughout the school year, students are invited into various servant and fellowship opportunities with their Small Groups.  All of this is designed to prepare these young people to take on life-long adult roles in the life of the worshipping community.

Confirmation instruction leads up to a public celebration of the Rite of Affirmation of Baptism (aka “Confirmation”) on Reformation Sunday each year… the last Sunday of October in the student’s tenth grade year.  This rite is not a “graduation from church,” but a stepping-stone on the road to a life-long journey of following Jesus!

Every summer there is a week of vacation bible school. This is a week which includes times of fun, learning, and friendship. The kids will learn new songs, have bible lessons related to the theme for the week, make new friends, and have lots of fun.

VBS is offered for the children in grades Kindergarden-5th grade. There is also a Pre-School VBS for kids ages 3-5 years old.

The Sunday school program is under the guidance of the Parish Education Committee and the Director of Parish Education. There are classes for the children ages 3 through 9th grade.

Classes meet every Sunday from 9:35-10:40am.

We strongly encourage parents to bring their children to worship services. During the Sunday school hour the children have time for bible lessons, crafts, singing and making new friends.

The Senior high ministries at Trinity are in the process of growing. Our mission is to create a space where senior high students can be "real" about the issues they are facing in a faith-fillled enviroment. Our fellowship activities include bowling, miniature golfing, movie outtings, game nights, paint balling and walking mazes.

In addition to these fellowship events each year we have an annual summer trip.

Past trips include a week in the Boundary Waters, on a reservation in South Dakota, or in a houseboat on the Mississippi.

Adult Education: Everyone 10th grade and older is invited to Adult Education, which meets from 9:45 to 10:30am in the Erickson Parlor.

This time is usually led by one of the pastors. Classes and discussions focus on both biblical and social topics as they relate to our Christian lives. The topics for Adult Education are listed in the bulletins and monthly newsletter. Coffee and doughnuts are available during this time.
